The cycling and pedestrian shared path network in Kalgoorlie and Esperance will be expanded, following a State Government grant of $58,000 to fund two projects.

Goldfields-Esperance Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich said the Country Pathways Grant Scheme (CPGS) grants would provide a much-needed boost to the region's shared path network.

“Two new paths will be constructed, creating new recreational facilities and sustainable transport options in the region,” Ms Ravlich said.

“In the Shire of Esperance, $42,000 will be provided to help build a 1,762m shared path along Twilight Beach Road, which will connect pedestrian and cycle traffic with the existing path network and link to the popular town beaches.

“In the Shire of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, a grant of $16,000 will go towards a 634m shared path to be constructed along Boomerang Crescent, in South Kalgoorlie.

“This project will connect high schools, recreational facilities, sporting clubs and small businesses.

“This year, a total of 80 project applications were received from across Western Australia, which demonstrates the strong demand for these paths and the success of the program.”

Administered by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, the CPGS provides funding on a ‘dollar-for-dollar’ basis for the planning and development of shared paths and other cycling facilities.

Since 2001, the Government has spent $7.1million on the Country Pathways Grant Scheme, which has helped build more than 185km of shared paths in regional WA.
