Planning for Ashfield's future

Media statement

Release date: 23/03/09

A precinct plan to optimise land use surrounding Ashfield train station has been released for public comment.

Department for Planning and Infrastructure Director General Eric Lumsden said that the Ashfield Precinct Plan will provide strategic direction for the future development of Ashfield over the next 20 years.

"The precinct plan also aims to increase use of the rail service at Ashfield , take advantage of Ashfield's strategic location in the metropolitan area and guide development of under-used industrial land.

"Ashfield is a strategically important area in the metropolitan area, it has a prime link to the airport and it is ideally placed to capitalise on its location and available land for more intensive transit oriented development".

An information evening on the precinct plan will be held on Wednesday 25 March 6 – 8.30 pm at the Ashfield Soccer Club at which the project team will explain the key elements of the plan and be available to answer any questions on the plan or the process.

“It is hoped that the community will partake in this opportunity by making submissions and be part of a process that will help to guide the future development of Ashfield over the next 20 years,” Mr Lumsden said.

The plan is available from the WAPC website www.wapc.wa.gov.au/comment or by contacting Catherine Kennewell on 9264 7849.

Submissions on the plan close on 4 May 2009.
