Release date: 05/08/09

Women will be treated to a day of glamour photography and bicycle beauty tips in the Perth CBD this Thursday, aiming to encourage more women to take up short-trip cycling.

Department of Transport Bikewest Manager Sandra Rogers said Glamour Push Live will demonstrate that riding a bicycle does not mean having to sacrifice style and elegance.

"Short cycling trips to the office, cafes, shops, a friend's house or a bit of sightseeing can easily be done wearing stylish clothing and shoes, rather than sports clothing."

Bikewest staff and volunteers will be on hand at Glamour Push Live providing Hair by Helmet styling tips and advice on riding in comfort and chic. All visitors will also have the opportunity to win a Cycle Instead prize pack, as well as take home cycling maps and guides.

Ladies also have the opportunity to be photographed on a designer Kronan bicycle direct from Europe.

“Women are currently under-represented in cycling participation.  By embracing the more glamorous side of bicycles, we hope to attract more Perth women into cycling,” Ms Rogers said.

"A great way to start riding is to enter the 2009 Cycle Instead Bike to Work Challenge that runs for six weeks, from 7 September to 18 October.

"One lucky female participant in the challenge will win the Kronan bicycle, valued at over $1500."

Glamour Push Live will be held near the information kiosk in the Murray Street Mall on Thursday 6 August between 10am to 3pm.
