New Taxi Industry Board Reference Group to provide voice of industry and customers

Media statement

Release date 07/08/09

Twelve representatives from the taxi industry and the Perth community have been appointed as members of the newly established Taxi Industry Board Reference Group (TIBRG).

Transport Minister Simon O'Brien said the newly established TIBRG would help improve taxi services by providing taxi industry and consumer feedback to the recently formed Taxi Industry Board.

“The Liberal-National Government has already delivered on its election commitment to restore the Taxi Industry Board, after the previous Labor government let its term lapse; typical of their piecemeal approach to the taxi industry,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The TIBRG will consist of six members who represent the consumer and six members who represent the taxi industry, ensuring a balanced perspective is achieved when discussing issues requiring solutions that benefit all parties involved.

“I am pleased to announce that the following members will represent the taxi service consumer:

  • Elizabeth Shaw - youth representative
  • Graham Moss - tourism representative
  • Ian Goodenough - local government representative
  • Brian Moar - hospitality and tourism representative
  • Graham Ware - airports representative
  • Greg Madson - disability user advocate.

“They all have a diverse experience in an array of service-orientated environments and will clearly provide a broad cross section of perspectives relating to using taxi services,” the Minister said.

The following members will represent the taxi industry:

  • Kevin Foley - managing director, Swan Taxis
  • Kevin Wigg - general manager, Black & White Taxis
  • John Golawski - taxi plate owner /operator and spokesperson for the Peak Period Operators Group
  • David Winter - taxi driver and former plate owner and lessee
  • Mohamadali Eddine - taxi driver and member of the Taxi Industry Forum of Western Australia
  • Bruce Davies - managing director, Combined Taxi Management Pty Ltd.

“These members have extensive operational experience in the taxi industry which will prove invaluable when proposing solutions to matters raised by the industry," Mr O'Brien said.

"The TIBRG's objective is to balance the views and requirements of consumers and industry when providing strategic advice on policies and plans for improving the taxi industry.

“Other organisations or individuals may also be invited to provide input into the reference group from time to time.

“I look forward to working with the TIBRG.”
