The 2009-10 funding round is now open and will close on Friday 20 March 2009, 1700 WDST.
This year, RADS could offer up to $7 million to eligible projects in regional airports in Western Australia. The scope of eligible projects has increased. More information can be found on the 2009-10 Funding Round Brochure. (create link to brochure)
The Regional Airports Development Scheme (RADS) has played a significant role in helping develop airport infrastructure in regional Western Australia.
Following the 2008-09 funding round allocations, the program has injected approximately $14.4 million into approximately 156 projects since 2001.
Information on completed and current projects is available on our interactive RADS project map.
Western Australia was the first State to provide funding for airport infrastructure in regional areas. Some other Australian States have since developed similar programs.
Through RADS, the State works in partnership with airport owners providing assistance to develop regional airport infrastructure that meets access needs and contributes to regional economic growth. |
RADS 2009-10 funding roundThe 2009-10 RADS funding round is closed now. Late applications will not be considered.
Details of the submission criteria and the information required are outlined in:
All submissions must include an application form.
For further information, please contact the RADS Research Officer on telephone 9216 8744.
Assessment process
Applications are assessed by a panel chaired by the Department and comprising Tourism Western Australia, Department of State Development, Department of Treasury and Finance, Department of Local Government and Regional Development, the Western Australian Local Government Association and the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Western Australia. Recommendations are then forwarded to the Minister for Transport for approval. Successful applicants are then notified by letter and offered an opportunity to enter into a funding agreement with the State.
Other funding sources
The Department encourages applicants to explore all avenues for funding towards their projects. Other funding opportunities available for airport infrastructure include:
- Remote Aerodrome Safety Programme (RASP) is a federally funded initiative to assist the upgrading of airstrips for remote and isolated aerodromes to facilitate the provision of non-commercial essential community air services across the nation. The next funding round is expected to open in early 2009.
- Funding is based on a one third contribution from the applicant, the Commonwealth and the State, or a fifty percent contribution from the applicant and the Commonwealth. Applicants are required to apply directly to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Government and Local Development and, if also seeking State Government funding, provide a copy of the application to the Department no later than the RASP submission closing date.
Further information is available from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.
