End of trip facilities in government buildings

Read the document   (135kb pdf)

Many cyclists are becoming aware of the personal benefits associated with cycling such as improved health, opportunities for social contact, and significant economic advantages. The bicycle is acknowledged for its cost effectiveness and efficiency over short distances in urban areas. Cycling to access government services for work or business is increasing in popularity and can be encouraged with end of trip facilities.

The Bike Ahead: Bicycle Strategy for the 21st Century, released by the Premier in August 1996, identifies key actions that are needed to ensure that the safety and convenience of cyclists are taken into consideration when other actions and decisions are being made, such as end of trip facilities in new and refurbished buildings.

Facilities for cyclists at Perth Train Station

The City of Perth has a "Rest Centre" located on the Upper Level at Perth Train Station.

The Centre provides lockers and showers for a fee.

Admission - 40 cents
Small locker hire - $4.00
Large locker hire - $7.00
Shower facilities - $5.00

Opening hours are:
Monday - Thursday - 7am to 10:15pm
Friday & Saturday - 7am to midnight
Sunday - 7am to 9:15pm

Bicycle parking facilities

Bicycle parking relieves the pressure on park'n'ride facilities and provides alternative access by improving the integration of bikes with public transport.

The Department for Planning and Infrastructure has implemented bicycle parking (412 lockers, 6 bike lids and an additional 210 U rails) at suburban railway stations and major bus stations.

The upgrade of bike parking facilities includes the manufacture, installation and promotion of new lockers and U rails.

Conditions of use

The use of lockers is free. Users are required to provide their own lock (D lock or padlock) and observe the Conditions of Use (28kb pdf) that are displayed on alternate doors of each locker set. It is recommended that a top quality padlock be used that has a hardened steel shackle with a solid case.

Locker locations

A list of current locker locations at railway stations is available here (193kb pdf). The bicycle lockers are situated close to station platforms and where available lockers have been positioned in areas monitored by surveillance (closed circuit TV).
