Perth Bicycle Network

Details and the status of principal shared path projects are given below:

Bayswater Station to Tonkin Highway PSP

Project:

This 1.2 km Principal Shared Path forms part of the Perth Bicycle Network’s Perth-Midland link and includes a three-metre wide shared path with lighting over its entire length.

The facility will ensure a convenient and accessible cycling route between Perth and Tonkin Highway and will ultimately form part of the Perth to Midland Principal Shared Path. When it is completed, there will still be 8.5km from the Tonkin Highway to Midland Station to be completed.

Priority status: The implementation of this project will provide benefits to the community by establishing a safe, high-standard transport route for cyclists, pedestrians and people with disabilities.
Project status: Design issues have delayed the commencement of the project.  Construction will begin at the earliest opportunity.

Leach Highway and South Street PSP underpass projects

Project:

This project involves the construction of grade separated crossing points on the Kwinana Freeway PSP at Leach Highway and South Street, to allow a much safer and faster thoroughfare for PSP users.

These two projects will provide significant benefits to cyclists using the existing PSP network, in addition to the access benefits for future station patrons.

Priority status: The previous at-grade road crossing in these locations was a major barrier to cyclists in this corridor. Leach Highway and South Street were extremely difficult crossing points for cyclists, with inherent danger and lack of continuity for the traveler.
Project status: This project was part of the current Main Roads WA Package E design and construct contract. The construction works are being incorporated into the roadworks for the new Leach Highway and South Street Transit Stations.
Completion date: The Leach Highway underpass is complete and open to the public.  The South Street underpass will be connected to the PSP once the Murdoch Transit Station is operational.  This is expected to be completed by the end of June 2008.
