Ride around the Rivers

These pages describe a scenic ride around the Swan and Canning rivers.

The ride has been prepared with the recreational cyclist in mind, although competitive cyclists will find the ride challenging and enjoyable.

The route selected makes use of shared pathways and minor roads where possible. Extreme care should be taken when the route takes you onto busy roads and highways. Some cyclists may prefer to walk on adjacent footpaths for the short sections of heavily trafficked roads.

The distance of the ride is approximately 50 kilometres for rides 1-8, and depending on your fitness and competency should take between 3 and 6 hours to complete. Recreational cyclists may prefer to spread the ride over a whole day, stopping for lunch at one of the numerous picnic spots along the route.

It is suggested that the ride be completed in an anti-clockwise direction so that most of the turns are to the left.

Remember! Pedestrians have the right of way over cyclists on shared paths. Ringing your bell will usually clear the way for you.

Always ride on the left-hand side, except when overtaking.

For your own safety and that of other path users, always signal your intentions to turn, ride in single file and keep your cycling speed appropriate to the conditions.

Most importantly - enjoy your ride!
