Ride along the Sunset Coast:
Ride 2 - Mullaloo to Sorrento Beach

From the Mullaloo Surf Lifesaving Club, head south on the shared path that runs along the beach side of Northshore Drive. It begins as a concrete path and then after a couple of hundred metres changes to a red-paved shared path.

Continue south on this shared path to Whitfords Beach car park. The shared path appears to go directly toward the beach but divides into two after a few metres. The right path will take you down to the water's edge and an excellent fishing spot. The left path continues south through the sand hills.

Sorrento Quay

Sorrento Quay at Hillarys Boat Harbour is a highlight of the Sunset Ride

This red-paved shared path goes past a couple of beach access points and there are toilets at each of these. Continue south to Pinnaroo Point Park where facilities include bicycle racks, showers, toilets, water fountains and undercover seats suitable for a picnic. The beach at Pinnaroo Point is excellent and gives a panoramic sweeping view down the coast.

On the southern side of the park, the shared path crosses a beach access road (John Wilkie Tarn) and continues south toward Hillarys Boat Harbour. Along this stretch the beach is only about 50 metres away and there are a number of access paths. Look out for people on horseback and other path users heading to or from the water.

Continue south towards the Ern Halliday Recreation Centre that is on the opposite side of Whitfords Avenue to the shared path. A tunnel branches off and goes under the road to the Centre. The red-paved shared path heading south changes to a concrete path and continues on to Hillarys Beach Park where you will find a large grassed area with toilets, bbqs and picnic tables.

Immediately south of the park, the concrete shared path narrows and cyclists should ride slowly. You will pass a small pond with a wooden bridge and then come to a T-junction. The southern path takes you to Hillarys Boat Harbour and its myriad of facilities and attractions. The boat harbour is situated about 25 minutes north of Perth and offers a wide variety of cafes and restaurants. Other attractions include a range of gift shops, entertainment venues, fishing charters and a huge aquarium.

Hillary Boat Harbour road crossing

Care should be taken where the path crosses busy roads to Hillarys Boat Harbour

The eastern path is red-paved and skirts around the boat harbour before continuing south on the beach side of West Coast Drive. Caution is required when crossing Northside Drive which leads to the yacht club, and a little further on, extreme care is required when crossing the very busy main access road to the harbour with its nearby roundabout.

Continue southwards on the shared path showing caution where it crosses a third harbour access road. At this point the path becomes concrete again and passes very close to the beach giving an excellent view south, including Observation City in the distance.

About one kilometre south of Hillarys Boat Harbour the shared path enters the Sorrento Beach complex. This is an excellent beach for swimming with bicycle racks, toilets, showers, public telephone and some nearby shops. All Seasons Holiday Resort is directly opposite.
