Ride 5 - Riverton Bridge to Mt Henry Bridge

From the Riverton Bridge park, head west on the path back over the bridge and then immediately right into the shared path running between Riverton Drive and the river. Follow the path under the Shelley Bridge and westwards as it skirts the water’s edge.

The river system begins to widen noticeably in this area. The shared path stays between the road and the river for about four kilometres. It varies from concrete to red pavement to bitumen and provides some spectacular views for much of the way.

Continue on the path as it loops around Prisoners Point and past the Shelley Sailing Club. Depending on water levels, you may be able to see the remains of a wooden fence constructed by convict labour in the 1860s.

Shelley path
The path winds along the scenic Shelley/Rossmoyne foreshore.

A little further along there is straight section of river sometimes called Shelley Beach that has picnic tables and public toilets.

Opposite Fifth Avenue (which is also a starting point for PBN SE41), the river narrows to less than a hundred metres at Salter Point, which juts out from a spit of land on the other side. Continue on the shared path as it winds around and then heads southwards alongside the Bull Creek inlet. You will pass the entry to Central Road. The compact Rossmoyne Shopping Centre can be found 700 metres along this street.

Continue on the shared path alongside Riverton Drive as it becomes Bull Creek Road. This will take you past a retirement village and Sherwin Lodge.

At the end of Bull Creek Road, turn right into the shared path heading west alongside Leach Highway. Continue past Yagan Park and turn right into the shared path running alongside Pulo Road. Follow the path as it travels past Thomas Middleton Park and then very close to the water’s edge alongside The Esplanade. The ride concludes at a grassed reserve situated within the shadow of Mount Henry Bridge in the aptly named suburb of Mount Pleasant.
