Country Pathways

The Country Pathways Grant Scheme provides funding assistance to local government authorities and community groups to assist in the planning, development and promotion of shared paths and cycling facilities in regional Western Australia.

All regional local government authorities are eligible to apply for grant funding through the Country Pathways Grant Scheme.

The 2008-09 Country Pathways Grant Scheme has closed and all submissions are currently being assessed.  The 2009-10 round of funding will open for submissions in October 2008.

The scheme's 2008-09 application guidelines are available below:

A total of $750,000 worth of grants was available in 2008-09.

Perth metropolitan local government authorities can apply for grant funding through the PBN Local Government Grants Program.

The Country Pathways Grant Scheme's primary aims are to:

  • Encourage the integrated planning of cycling infrastructure
  • Develop an integrated network of shared paths and on-road bike lanes
  • Provide safe access to schools, sport, recreation and community facilities
  • Improve the safety of cyclists, pedestrians and other path users

Over the decade since its inception, the Country Pathways Grant Scheme has seen a significant improvement in safety for cyclists, pedestrians and other path users in regional areas. Other community benefits linked to the program include improvements in transport access, health and the environment due to reduced pollution from traffic.

Map Production

The Cycling Unit is able to assist you with the production of any mapping and graphics you may require.  From large to small scale, the cycling maps can display shared paths, scenic routes and trails for your country town as a printed brochure, a PDF for emailing, or as an image suitable for your web site.  To view some examples go to: www.dpi.wa.gov.au/cycling or contact the Cycling Unit for a sample pack.
