From 1 July 2009, the Department for Planning and Infrastructure became the Department of Planning and the Department of Transport. State Land Services and Pastoral Leases became part of the Department of Regional Development and Lands.

  1. Is the Government planning to reinstate the Fremantle Eastern Bypass
    There are no plans to reinstate the Fremantle Eastern Bypass. Once  previous plans for a bypass were abandoned, the reserved land was sold off and is now being redeveloped.

  2. How long has a proposed upgrade to High Street been on the 'drawing board'?
    In 2005, the Local Impacts Committee recommended upgrading High Street between Stirling Highway and Carrington Street, to a four-lane divided road with full access control to improve safety and excessive traffic noise.

    In November 2007, the Department for Planning and Infrastructure started a planning study to find a preferred option to upgrade a 1.5km section of High Street, Fremantle – between Stirling Highway and Carrington Street.

  3. How many lanes will the upgrade provide?
    The study is investigating options for the proposed upgrade of this 1.5km section of High Street, to a four-lane divided road with full access control that will cater for existing and predicted traffic well into the future.
