Oil pollution

The role of the Department for Planning and Infrastructure as a hazard management agency is to protect the marine environment in Western Australia from oil pollution.

This is done through the principles of preparation, prevention, response and recovery, as detailed in the National Marine Oil Spill Contingency Plan.

Protection from erosion

The Department for Planning and Infrastructure is responsible for the development of coastal facilities for small craft around the State.

As an outcome of these responsibilities, the Department also assists local coastal managers (e.g. local governments) in coastal protection of land and property from erosion by the ocean.
