Geographical limits of commercial vessels
The geographical limits of smooth waters and partially smooth waters are areas that are defined in Schedule 1 of the Western Australian Marine (Certificates of Competency and Safety Manning) Regulations 1983 (available for State Law Publisher).
- A vessel which is required to operate outside Smooth Waters or Partially Smooth Waters up to a maximum of 30 Nautical Miles off the mainland coast is required to be certificated at least for "C" Area operations.
- A vessel which is required to operate outside Smooth Waters or Partially Smooth Waters up to a maximum of 200 Nautical Miles off the mainland coast is required to be certificated at least for "B" Area operations.
- Hire and Drive Vessel's approved for operations to 5 nautical miles or more from the mainland coast may operate to limits described in Annex 1 to Instruction To Surveyors 42/99 and as described below.

From the coast west along latitude 31°46' S to position 31°46' S, 115°40' E, to position 31°43'45" S, 115°39'03" E, to the Eglinton Rocks, to Pipidinny Reef inshore of Alkimos Reef, and east to the coast at position 31°35'05" S, 115°38'08" E. |

The waters of Warnbro Sound and Shoalwater Bay enclosed by the coast, a line joining Becher Point to the Sisters, the Sisters to Penguin Island (southern point), the eastern shore of Penguin Island, and from Penguin Island (northern point) to Cape Peron (Mushroom Rock). |

The waters enclosed by a line running due north from the mainland to the eastern end of Koolan Island, west along the southern shore of Koolan Island, from the west end of Koolan Island to the east end of Cockatoo Island, along the southern shore of Cockatoo Island and from the west end of Cockatoo Island due south to the mainland. |

Within, and up to 500 metres outside of, the area bounded by a line (i) north from the mainland shore through the western shore of Egret Island, (ii) straight and northerly to Bare Rock, (iii) north-easterly to the northern shore of Kendrew Island, (iv) straight to the northern shore of Brigadier Island, (v) straight to Cape Legendre on Legendre Island, (vi) straight east-south-easterly to the north-west of Delambre Island, (vii) along the eastern side of Delambre Island reefs to the reefs' southernmost tip, (viii) due south to Dixon Island and the mainland. |
| Shark Bay |
Within the confines of Henri Freycinet Harbour and Freycinet Reach to a limit of a line drawn: (i) due east from the eastern extremity of Quoin Bluff South (Dirk Hartog Island) for 500 metres (to approximately E113°09.7 S25°53.3), (ii) then in a straight line on a bearing of 150 degrees true to a point 45 degrees true from Tumbledown Point (approximately E113°14.5 S26°00.9),(iii) then in a straight line on a bearing 45 degrees true to Peron Peninsula (approximately 500 metres south-east of Middle Bluff). South of Dirk Hartog Island, operations are also limited to east of a line drawn: (i) from Surf Point on Dirk Hartog Island due south to the mainland.. |

Within 2 nautical miles of South and North Muiron Islands, and also in waters bounded by (i) a straight line from the shore of North West Cape to its western tangent with the 2 nautical mile limit, (ii) the continuation of the 2 nautical mile limit north-east and south-east around North Muiron Island, (iii) a tangent with the 2 nautical mile limit in a southerly direction to the eastern shore of Sunday Island, (iv) a straight line to the mainland at Point Murat |

Within 2 nautical miles of Thevenard Island and in waters also bounded by (i) a straight line commencing on the mainland shore west of Onslow and running due north through Ashburton Island to where it forms a tangent to the 2 nautical mile limit, (ii) the 2 nautical mile limit around Thevenard Island, (iii) a straight line to the mainland which is tangential to the eastern side of the 2 nautical mile limit and intersects the north-east shore of Direction Island. |

Within 2 nautical miles of Rottnest Island and also in waters bounded by (i) a line from John Point (Rockingham) to Collie Head on Garden Island, (ii) the eastern and northern shores of Garden Island, (iii) a line from Entrance Point on Garden Island to Parker Point on Rottnest Island, (iv) the eastern shore of Rottnest Island to Bathurst Point, (v) a line due east from Bathurst Point to the mainland shore. |
