What vehicles are you licensed to drive?

Only the highest class you have gained will be shown on your licence.

However, you may be licensed to drive vehicles of other classes. Just check the chart below to see what vehicles you are licensed to drive.

A description of the different restrictions that can be placed on your licence is also listed below.

Examples of vehicles in this class:

R-N
Moped

A motorcycle that has a propelling engine having a piston displacement not exceeding 50 cc and which is designed so as to be capable of a speed not exceeding 60 kilometres per hour.

R-E
Restricted motorcycle

A motorcycle with an engine capacity exceeding 100cc but not exceeding 250cc (with foot or hand operated clutch).  

R-N

 

R
Motorcycle

A motorcycle with an engine capacity exceeding 250cc.  

R-E and R-N.

 

C
Car

A motor vehicle with a gross vehicle mass not greater than 4.5 tonnes and constructed or equipped to seat no more than 12 adults (including the driver).
 

 R-N

 

LR
Light rigid

A motor vehicle with a gross vehicle mass greater than 4.5 tonnes but not greater than 8 tonnes, or that seats more than 12 adults (including the driver) and has a gross vehicle mass no greater than 8 tonnes.
 

C and R-N

 

MR
Medium rigid

A motor vehicle that has 2 axles and a gross vehicle mass greater than 8 tonnes.
 

LR, C and R-N

 

HR
Heavy rigid

A motor vehicle that has 3 or more axles and a gross vehicle mass greater than 8 tonnes.
 

MR, LR, C and R-N

 

HC
Heavy combination

A prime mover to which is attached a single semi-trailer plus any unladen converter dolly, or rigid motor vehicle attached to a trailer that has a gross vehicle mass greater than 9 tonnes plus any unladen converter dolly.
 

HR,MR, LR, C and R-N

 

MC
Multi combination

Any heavy combination unit towing one or more trailers, each having a gross vehicle mass greater than 9 tonnes.
