Promoting vehicle safety
The Department for Planning and Infrastructure encourages manufacturers to improve primary and secondary vehicle safety design features by promoting vehicle safety initiatives.
Primary safety
Primary safety design features are those that improve a driver's ability to avoid an accident, such as effective fail-safe braking systems or unobstructed fields of view.
Secondary safety
Secondary safety design features are those that provide increased occupant protection, such as seatbelts, air bags and crumple zones.
