The LPG Subsidy Scheme came to an end on 30 June 2009

Question: When did the WA LPG subsidy scheme commence in Western Australia?

Answer: The WA LPG subsidy scheme began as a 21 month trial in October 2000. The scheme has continued for over 8 years.

Question: Why has the government decided to cease the program?

Answer: Western Australia is the only State in Australia with an LPG subsidy. The Commonwealth Government followed the WA lead by introducing a national subsidy in 2006, which is still available beyond 30 June 2009. After having ‘kick started’ the LPG industry in WA and assisting more than 38,000 vehicles owners to convert to LPG, the government believes that it has set solid foundation for a healthy LPG industry.

Question: I had my installation completed before the scheme ended, is there a deadline for submitting my application form?

Answer: As long as the conversion is completed on or before 30 June 2009, your application must be submitted to the Department as soon as possible.

Question: Does the vehicle need to be inspected by the Department on or before 30 June 2009?

Answer: No, it can be inspected after 30 June 2009 provided the LPG conversion is completed on or before 30 June 2009.

Question: What does "date converted" mean, is it the date the installer started working on my vehicle or date installation was completed?

Answer: The conversion must be completed on or before 30 June 2009 and be ready for inspection by the Department.

Question: I'm thinking about purchasing a new vehicle with LPG installed, is the deadline the date my records show I acquired the vehicle or the date the vehicle was manufactured?

Answer: To be eligible for the WA LPG subsidy, you must have registered/licenced the new vehicle with the LPG tank installed on or before 30 June 2009, or if the vehicle needed to be converted, the conversion must have been completed on or before 30 June 2009.

Question: I booked my vehicle in for installation before the cut off date but it was completed after the 30 June, am I eligible?

Answer: No, the WA LPG subsidy is only granted to vehicles that have had the conversion completed on or before 30 June 2009. After that date, if you meet the criteria, you will still be eligible for the Commonwealth LPG subsidy.

Question: In good faith I had my vehicle converted, installation began before the cut off date but my installer was slow completing the work after 30 June, are there any grounds to reconsider?

Answer: The LPG conversion must be completed and the vehicles ready for inspection by the Depatment on or before 30 June 2009, to be eligible for the WA LPG subsidy.

Question: If I'm not eligible for the WA LPG subsidy, do I still need my vehicle inspected?

Answer: Yes, as your vehicle has been modified, it must be inspected.

Question: Will I still be eligible for the Commonwealth subsidy if my vehicle is converted after 30 June 2009?

Answer: Although the WA LPG subsidy scheme is ceasing, the Federal Government scheme is continuing. For further information about the criteria for eligibility please visit to the Federal LPG scheme.
