Community consultation: stage 2

Stage 2 of the community consultation comprised two public forums, the first on 6 December 2004 at Melville City Council Main Hall and the second on 8 December 2004 at Riverton Leisureplex. The purpose of the forums was:

Information was also available at local libraries and council offices.

Approximately 300 people attended the City of Melville forum and 75 people attended the Riverton Leisureplex forum.

At the forums, it was explained how the priority locations had been chosen and why, and a range of possible solutions were presented on maps displayed around the room for discussion and feedback. Technical personnel were on hand to answer questions and discuss issues one-on-one.

People could fill in a feedback form on the night or send it in later. People could also comment on other traffic management issues. A total of 137 feedback forms were received by the closing date of 31 January 2005.

The form asked for people to rank each proposed solution from ‘strongly support' to ‘strongly oppose'. The most widely supported solutions tended to be ‘low impact' (ie social/environmental improvements). The most widely opposed tended to be the large-scale, infrastructure solutions.

The information was used, in combination with technical analysis, to aid the LIC in preparing its final recommendations.

For full details of the public consultation and the community's views on each of the proposed solutions see Stage 2 Community consultation report
