Walk Week is an annual event that encourages Western Australians of all ages to be active by walking for transport, health, recreation and the environment. It is a week of state-wide walking events, ranging from 'walk to school/work' breakfasts, to local neighbourhood walks and other community events. Walk Week Seminar 2008
A FREE half day seminar hosted by the Department for Planning and Infrastructure on Thursday 6 November 2008 from 9 to 11 am.
Walk to Work day is a National event where all Australians are encouraged to incorporate walking into their daily routine for the sake of their health and that of the environment.
The objectives of National Walk to Work Day are:
To promote regular walking as a healthy activity.
To reduce the reliance on the private motor vehicle.
To promote and improve the use of public transport.
To improve air quality by reducing unnecessary vehicle emissions.
You can participate in Walk to Work Day in a variety of ways;
Use public transport and get off a few stops earlier and walk the rest of the way
Take a half-hour walk at lunch-time
If you have to drive, leave the car at least a kilometre from your destination and walk the rest of the way to work.
Make tracks2school is a fun and exciting walking and cycling program for students in Years 5 – 7. The program aims to encourage students and their families to walk or cycle to school more often from 27 October – 21 November (Term 4). Participation will help students to achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity they need each day for good health and may even help to reduce traffic congestion around schools and increase neighbourhood safety.

Trek the Trail is a not for profit health and leisure event that allows participants to walk or cycle a section of the historic Railway Reserves Heritage Trail. It is free and open to all. It is non competitive, which means you can take as long as you like to complete the route, or just complete a section of it. Combining the elements of the natural environment, health and fitness, arts and culture and history and heritage, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Mundaring is only a half an hour from Perth city, making this an attractive getaway for the day.
Walking sponsorship
The Department promotes and supports walking for transport, health and recreation through its Walk There Today Sponsorship Program.
This program helps different community groups and organisations, including local government, with planning, promoting, implementing and evaluating community based walking events and programs.
Please note that events will be posted at the discretion of the Department for Planning and Infrastructure.
